Tiny Travel Tips

As a foreigner who has been based in the Eternal City for almost 30 years now, I have realized how Rome's magical power has always kept me in its grip, in spite of this place being quite challenging to live in. Maybe its overwhelming and so long-lasting beauty has something reassuring about it - something comforting - something to make you get through the hard times. Someone said "With love from ROMA AMOR" is "the gracious product of the author's passion for the beauty of the Eternal City and her ironic love for love" (Didi Leoni, journalist, filmmaker, TV host). Besides showing the amazing grace of what many consider to be the most beautiful capital of the world, making this book perfect to skim through to just relax and dream away, it also contains a romantic-funny love photo poem about the ups and downs of relationships, friendships, or any other situationship ;-). On a trip through more than 100 colourful pages, this handy cause light book takes you around enchanting Rome and its surroundings, allowing you to read into the Eternal City's soul from both original viewpoints and points of view (what's in a word). If you're more "grounded", I can recommend going for repeated but rewarding strolls in Trastevere and around the Tiber, or for promising promenades around the amazing Appia, the gorgeous Roman villas or in the tiny but surprising parks; Rome holds the record of greenest capital of Europe in terms of hectares of greenery by the way. Talking about "grounded", I'm glad to say that my rocking and rolling wheelchair friends (click on the link below for my Duchenne Song Hang on) were overall very satisfied with their holiday in Rome. If on the other hand you're looking for some top views - again in all senses - I would suggest walking up any staircase you come across, making your way to as many public or private rooftops as possible, so you could have the splendour of the seven hills of Rome at your feet! You can check the Wheeltheworld website for wheelchair-friendly top views too. Friends once took me to the terrace of the “Altare della Patria” (the "Wedding Cake") for example, where to my surprise I saw marvellous landmarks and landscapes around the monument I didn't even know existed, not even after all these years - maybe because I always first looked for less central or obvious places. Of course there are also many rooftop bars you can search on the net where to have a drink or a meal, or if you want a stunning view every time you go back to your home in Rome, you could just put “rooftop or terrace view” in the Smart Filters of Booking.com for example. Anyway, you can also perfectly use this book as a kind of "treasure hunt - travel guide", given that the indications of the photographed places are kept basic on purpose, because sometimes the best way to get to know a place is to get lost in it. Obviously, if you are on a tight time schedule or if you prefer a more organized, educational-historical/archeological look into the city, getting a good guide might be the best formula for you. However, I believe this book is a must-have for Rome lovers, a perfect souvenir to bring back to your beloved ones, a playful way to prepare your holiday, or simply to make you what I call "dream-travel" from your home if you can't make it to Rome.
